We met on Oct. 3 and Oct. 17. Items of discussion included scheduling a Highway Cleanup Day in December or January. We are still looking for a new Key Club adviser at West Forsyth High School. Financial Reports were given at each meeting. Thao reported on the success of the High Point University CKI Beauty Pageant.
Joel and Thao will attend the October 8th Lewisville-Clemmons Chamber of Commerce Non-Profit Showcase. The club voted to award $50 gas card to the business card drawing
Club members attended the curriculum event at Morgan Elementary School. The free popcorn was a big hit. Oct. 18 will be Morgan’s Spirit Day. The club plans to provide Thanksgiving dinners for families of Morgan students again this year. Four members attended the Trinity Elms Fall Festival Fundraiser on the 26th.
Our Annual Pecan Sales are underway. You can purchase top-quality 1-pound bags of Terri Lynn Pecans in person at Piedmont Federal, Truist and Be Kind Coffee in Clemmons, or order online at https://clemmons-kiwanis.terrilynn.com. Proceeds go to our Scholarship Fund.
Possible fundraising opportunities were discussed. We agreed to contact the principal and counseling staff at West Forsyth for advice on a Key Club advisor. We talked about possibly assisting Southwest Elementary. We are planning a pancake supper for the Trinity Elms apartment residents sometime in December.
Building another wheelchair-accessible swing was also discussed as a community project. Joel will be meeting with the Jerry Long YMCA to see if it would be feasible to place one there. Other possible projects brought up were hosting a blood drive, assisting Fostering Faith with their new office move, storytelling at the Clemmons Library, hosting a Big Brother Big Sister event and supporting other worthy local causes.
Our Speaker David Hanein with Piedmont Federal Bank presented an overview of the Chamber of Commerce Leadership groups presentation. He detailed ways our club could use social media and other community outreach activities to build our club membership.
The Kiwanis Club of Clemmons meets on the first and third Thursdays of each month. The meeting time is noon at the Trinity Elms Apartment Complex Community building at 7543 Fair Oaks Drive (just off Harper Road) second drive to the right. Anyone interested is welcome to come to a meeting. A light lunch will be served. For more information contact thebeav1973@outlook.com.
