CLEMMONS — The Historic Broyhill was filled with the joyous sounds of the holiday season on Dec. 8, as the Winston-Salem Pops Chorus took to the stage in the Magnolia Room.

The group entertained a full room with a mix of Christmas classics during the free concert, which was part of the Bingham Arts Series, a program of the Shallow Ford Foundation. Each song was met with applause, and the smiles on the faces of attendees reflected the spirit of joy and togetherness that the season brings. To enhance the warmth of the afternoon, attendees enjoyed hot cocoa and cider from Be Kind Coffee.

The Winston-Salem Pops Chorus showcased songs from their 2024 holiday show titled Holiday Songs Yule Love. The lineup featured playful renditions of favorites such as “The Twelve Days of Christmas,” “We’re Going to Decorate the Christmas Tree,” “Blue Christmas” and “Mary Had a Baby.”

The audience of all ages was actively engaged, singing, clapping and laughing throughout the performance.

This marks the pops chorus’ first performance outside of Winston-Salem. Director Kevin Mundy humorously remarked, “I’m only halfway joking when I say everyone is totally jazzed about our first out-of-town gig even if it is only 10 miles away.”

The excitement surrounding the event was evident in the performance. If you are interested in experiencing the show firsthand, the pops chorus will host another free holiday concert on Friday, Dec. 20, at 6:30 p.m. at Ardmore Baptist Church in Winston-Salem.

This community event would not have been possible without the support of the Bingham Family. The Bingham Arts Series continues to unite people in the community to share in the joy of place-based arts and cultural experiences. Be sure to mark your calendars for the next event in the series: the Juried Community Art Show and Sale, taking place on March 16, 2025 at the Historic Broyhill.
