Couriering the area this week in 1986 – Clemmons couple, Bill and Joann Phillips, went with a group of 250 employees of Pepsico, Inc. to Moscow to attend the international Goodwill Games.

Anita Shannon Harriman, a student at Western Carolina University, was selected as a resident assistant at the school for the 1986-87 academic year.

Mike Facciolo, of Lewisville, was the featured Clemmons Courier, “Cook of the Week.” He grew up in Philadelphia where his parents owned a restaurant.

Jim Tobias, a two-time independent school basketball “Coach of the Year” was named the new athletic director at Forsyth Country Day School.

Local youngsters represented Sports World of Clemmons in the National Speed Skating Championship – Adam McIntosh, Ashley Taylor, Jenny Cafolia, Kevin McIntosh, Crystal Hutchins and Jennifer Brenner,

A two-run first inning homer by Chad Haynes, assisted North Carolina (Southwest Major All-Stars) in defeating South Carolina 7-1.

Following a disappointing opening round loss to Texas in the Southern Regional, the North Carolina Big League team was eliminated by Georgia with a score of 10-9. Members of the team from Southwest were Tate Rice, Rodney Tesh, Trent Messick, Brad Whitley and Ron Sidman.

Four local youths received Pop Warner Football awards – David Payne, Heather Gamble, Bret Rice and Jennifer Lentz.

The spotlight was on Donna Nodine, of Lewisville, when she was honored for being one of the top sales women in the more than 100,000-member Mary Kay Cosmetics sales organization.

Little Miss Clemmons, Rachel Wilson, was crowned Miss North Carolina Charm in Raleigh. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Wilson of Pfafftown.

After a 23-year ministry, Roy Hoover began a second career at age 52. He is the owner of Triad Refinishing in Clemmons.

Tonya Atkins, a student of dance at Baylin Dance Studio in Clemmons, was selected as a finalist to compete for the title of Miss North Carolina Teen USA.

Members of the Junior Varsity cheerleaders were: Jennifer Gregory, Ashley Surratt, Julie Fox, Michelle Andrews, Kelly Sapp, Julie Sidman, Jan Doty, Leanne Highsmith, Andrea Beitel, Claudia Goins, Allison Young and Susan Jennings.
