Thad Johnson Bingham
Mr. Thad Johnson Bingham, 92, passed away at his home on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2018. He was born on Oct. 27, 1925, to Jessie Johnson Bingham and Fred Bingham in Randolph County. Thad was a lifelong member of Clemmons United Methodist Church. He owned and operated Bingham Lumber for many years. He was a successful businessman who gave back to the community in a variety of meaningful ways. Thad enjoyed playing golf and taking trips to Las Vegas with friends. Most of all, he treasured time spent with family. They enjoyed many happy times together at the beach, the lake, and exploring far away destinations. Thad will be remembered as a pillar of the community with a giving spirit. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Jaymee Reavis and J.V. Snow. Surviving are his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Doby Bingham; daughters, Donna Merriman (Billy), and Denise Bingham; grandchildren, Thad Merriman (Elizabeth), Tyler Merriman, Travis Merriman (Ally), Tucker Merriman (Sydnie Covington), and Jessie Snow; great-grandchildren, Kyree Snow and Hunter Merriman; sister, Peggy Sparks (Jack); and brother, Max Bingham (Ruth). A funeral service was held at noon on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018 at Clemmons United Methodist Church with Rev. Paula Northrup officiating. Interment followed at Westlawn Gardens of Memory. Mary Emma Conrad Womack
BERMUDA VILLAGE — Mrs. Mary Emma Conrad Womack, 91, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2018. She was born Jan. 23, 1927, in Ft. Myers, Fla., to the late Walter William and Helene Cameron Conrad. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Joseph Wyatt Womack; and her brother, Walter “Sonny” Conrad in 2017. Mary and Joe made their home in South Miami, Florida, where they lived until Joe’s retirement. Survivors include her two children, Sally Womack Strohacker (Kim) and John William “Billy” Womack (Cathy), four grandchildren, Katie Smith Sikes (Jonathan), Danny Smith, Maggie Womack Hansell (Nick) and Erin Womack; four great-grandchildren, Nora and Callie Sikes and Colin and Jacob Hansell; her brother, Donald Conrad and his children, Donald Jr., Lynn and Nancy; and her beloved dog, Jake, whom she adopted after the death of her husband. Mary enjoyed her many friends and good conversation. She was a lifelong bridge player and an avid reader, having read thousands of books, especially mysteries, over her life. Mary spent years making quilts and rescuing old quilts, working on genealogy, participating in book clubs, Mocksville Woman’s Club and collecting antiques. She always enjoyed traveling and spending time with family at their cabin in the mountains. Mary’s family is deeply appreciative of the love and care mom received by the wonderful, loving caregivers at Bermuda Village. Their kindness will not be forgotten. A memorial service was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept., 8, at Eaton Funeral Chapel with Rev. A. Shane Nixon officiating. The family received friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Sylvia Wells Shelton
LEWISVILLE — Mrs. Sylvia Wells Shelton, 58, of Lewisville, passed away peacefully and went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2018. Sylvia was born in High Point on March 22, 1960, to the late John Robert Wells and Myrtle Fleming Wells. She was a devoted Christian and an active member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem. Sylvia was an incredible mother, wife, friend, sister, athlete, among other things, and was loved by all. She spent most of her career in sales and marketing until her caring spirit led her to The Winston-Salem Street School. Sylvia worked tirelessly as an advocate for The Winston-Salem Street School where she excelled in raising financial resources to support the school’s operation. She loved the children at the Street School and it was made clear by her passionate efforts to make sure they had the supplies needed to succeed. Sylvia was full of life and brought joy to everyone who knew her. She was known for her everlasting kindness and somehow always being able to say or do the right thing to make others feel special or important. She always set an example of how to face extreme challenges with grace and class as she ran her race with perseverance, courage, endurance, and most importantly, faith in the Lord. She was loved so much by her family and friends and will be missed by all, but we look forward to the day when we will be with her again. She is survived by her husband, Steve Shelton; children, Wells Herndon (Stephanie), Cameron Nothoff (Nick), and Laine Herndon; two step-children, Betsy McFerrin (Ryan) and Robert Shelton; one step-grandson, Nicholas Andrew; siblings, Ardith Pugh and John Wells (Cathy); numerous nieces and nephews; and countless friends. A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018, at Centenary United Methodist Church with Dr. Glen Kinken, III and Tamara M. Pollock officiating. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept., 4, 2018, at Centenary United Methodist Church. Madan Lal Chatrath
Mr. Madan Lal Chatrath, 93, of Clemmons, peacefully left for his heavenly abode on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2018, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born Sept., 2, 1924, in India, to the late Lala Chunilal Chatrath and Amrit Kaur Chatrath. He will always be remembered by family and friends as a beloved grandpa, dedicated husband, a committed father and a sincere saintly human being. He had his education in Amritsar, India, and while completing his M.B.B.S studies was recruited by the British Army during the Second World War. That was a surprise move and news to his father who found out after seven months that his son was at the front of the war. Shortly after the war, he joined civilian life as a public relations officer, and throughout his career he established himself in circles as a man of high moral values and immense integrity. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sudarshan Kumari Kanoongo Chatrath, and his brother, P.P. Singh Chatrath and two sisters, Krishna Seth and Preetam Trehan. Surviving are a daughter, Rita Sehgal; two sons: Sudhir Chatrath and wife Neeta, and Ashok Chatrath and wife Nishi; six grandchildren: Sunana Chatrath, Neha Chatrath, Rani Chatrath, Neera Chatrath, Rakesh Sehgal, and Sabina Sehgal; two brothers, Ram Parkash Chatrath and wife, Padma of Chicago, Ill., and Dharampaul Chatrath of India. Kim Gregory Sheets
LEWISVILLE — Mr. Kim Gregory Sheets, 62, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born May 18, 1956, in Forsyth County to the late Clarence William and Margie Moser Sheets. Kim enjoyed spending time with his family, cooking, gardening, skiing and riding motorcycles. He was a member of Warners Chapel Church of Christ and was a very dedicated and model employee at Dillon Supply Company. Preceding him in death was an infant son, Joshua Scott Sheets, and two brothers, Barry and Kevin Sheets. Surviving are a son, Chase Sheets; daughter, Melia Sheets; former wife, Teresa Jenkins (Ron); step-daughter, Sandy Coleman (Ron); step-grandchildren, Cameron and Gabe Coleman; sister, Debbie Southern (Gene); sisters-in-law, Patty and Laura Sheets; also surviving are many nieces and nephews. A graveside service was held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018, at Warners Chapel Church of Christ Cemetery with Minister Kevin Rutherford and Mr. Gene Southern officiating. A visitation was held for family and friends from 2-3 p.m. prior to the graveside at the church. Norma Lee Frye Vogler
ADVANCE — Mrs. Norma Lee Frye Vogler, 84, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2018, at her home. She was born in Forsyth County on March 3, 1934, to Ed and Ophelia Clinard Frye. Mrs. Vogler was a member of Advance United Methodist Church and she enjoyed going to church every Sunday. She was also a proud member of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Vogler graduated from Clemmons High School where she lettered in both basketball and softball. She loved sports and had participated in them throughout her childhood and even into her early 40s. She enjoyed working in her garden and cooking and was the manager of Biscuitville in Clemmons for over 15 years and later worked part time for Bojangles. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Vogler was preceded in death by her husband, William Frank Vogler, Jr.; and brothers, Ray Frye and Bill Frye. Surviving family includes a son, William “Frank” Vogler III, grandchildren, Abby Vogler and Will Vogler; and brother, Jim Frye. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018, at Advance United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Thompson officiating. The interment followed the service at the church cemetery. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018, at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel.
