WINSTON-SALEM – Piedmont Chamber Singers begins its 41st concert season on Saturday, Oct. 20, 7:30 p.m. at Maple Springs United Methodist Church, with John Rutter’s “Mass of the Children,” performed with the Winston-Salem Girls’ Chorus.

Mass of The Children received its premiere performance in Carnegie Hall, New York, in February 2003. In his work, Rutter combines traditional mass texts with other English texts and gives the children’s choir a central part to play in the performance. PCS is delighted to perform this work with local orchestra musicians; Jodi Burns, soprano; Dennis Raley, bass; and the Winston-Salem Girls’ Chorus, under the direction of Anne Saxon, celebrating its 20th season.

PCS’s central theme for this 41st season is the importance of sharing music within the community. Each concert will involve a collaboration with other local singers and groups as well as offering complimentary admission.

PCS recognizes the importance of children and youth to the choral community and the unifying force of the arts. Other works in this concert feature children’s stories, child-like texts, and themes of unification and pride in the future and will include music by Eric Whitacre, Dan Forrest, Mark Miller, Martin Sirvatka, and a performance of “This Is Me” from The Greatest Showman.

Thanks to the support of the Friends of Piedmont Chamber Singers, admission for all Season 41 concerts is complimentary.The opportunity to support each concert will be provided through a free-will offering.
