Titan Tattler: Weekly Roundup
Published 12:00 am Thursday, January 24, 2019
With one more day left in exam week, students and staff are looking forward to the promise of second semester. Alongside the reset of classes comes the beginning of the spring sports season, spirit week and the release of college decisions. In the meantime, here’s what’s coming up at West.
The Titan Talent Showcase and Coffeehouse will be Feb. 19 at 6 p.m. in the Anderson Performing Arts Center. Formerly known as West Fest, this talent show features acts from both students and staff that are sure to provide a night full of entertainment and fun. Auditions will be Friday, Feb. 15, and they are open to everyone. An open dress rehearsal will be held on Monday, Feb. 18, from 4-6 p.m. Tickets for the show are $5 at the door. You won’t want to miss this!
As the end of January tends to bring with it the release of collegiate decisions from schools such as UNC-Chapel Hill and North Carolina State University, many students are beginning to have a better idea of where they want to go. However, acquiring financial aid can be a different story. Seniors who are looking for scholarship opportunities should visit the Scholarship Information page located under the Student Services tab of the West Forsyth website. There, guidance counselors have compiled an updated list of available scholarships that students may browse through and see which ones they may qualify for. As a senior myself, I can testify that this source has significantly helped me in my search for financial aid.
Students planning on trying out for a spring sport should ensure that their athletic eligibility packet is turned in by Friday, Feb. 1. The sports that begin this spring are boys and girls lacrosse, boys and girls track and field, boys tennis, baseball, boys golf, boys and girls sand volleyball, girls soccer and softball. If you need to contact a coach individually, please visit the school website and find the Spring Sports page under the Athletics tab for all coaches’ information.
