Couriering the area this week in 1995 — Work on the expansion of the West Forsyth Family YMCA was going well and completion for the project was expected some time in May.
At last inspection, Councilman Dewey Edwards told the Village Council there were no violations of the Forsyth County sign ordinance, under which Clemmons operates.
The steeple, which was removed from the top of the old sanctuary at Clemmons First Baptist Church, was preserved and was turned into a historical marker in honor of the original structure, which was completed in 1905.
Christopher Andrew Novotny, of Clemmons, was named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at N.C. State University.
Two Lewisville residents earned degrees from Appalachian State University. The graduates were Jason Barrett Reynolds and Jennifer Ashley Surratt.
Double-event victories by Jay Collette, Yancey Goins, Matt Hodges and Brooke Willard, lifted West Forsyth’s boys and girls swim teams to City/County championships.
West Forsyth varsity men’s basketball team defeated Davie and Mount Tabor during the Central Piedmont Conference openers.
Fifteen cadets from West Forsyth High School took part in a JROTC Brigade Field Training Exercise along with 100 other cadets from Winston-Salem/Forsyth County high schools.
The University of North Carolina at Wilmington announced their dean’s list students. From Lewisville – Peter Joseph Burke, Alison L. Eldridge, Laura Jeanne Wall and Chadwick James Zuleger.
Five local residents were promoted at Wachovia Bank and Trust. Those included were Glenn R. Chamberlin of Lewisville, Fred R. Jacobs of Clemmons, Rebecca M. Long of Lewisville, Jane Jaworski of Clemmons and Charles M. Todd.
In a 3-2 vote, Clemmons Village Council passed a residential speed limit policy, but did not lower all the speed limits in Clemmons West from 35 to 25 mph.
Marine Lance Cpl. Stephen C. Manning, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward T. Manning, reported for duty with 2nd Battalion 9th Marines. 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, California. He was a 1990 graduate of West Forsyth High School and joined the Marines in September, 1991.
