Martha Wells Linker

Mrs. Martha Wells Linker, 85, of Clemmons died peacefully in her home of 55 years on Jan. 15, 2019. She was born in Greensboro on Nov. 20, 1933, to the late Mellie Kate and Chalmers Reid Wells. Martha worked for Western Electric and there she won the title of Miss Hello Charley as well as several other local beauty pageants. She moved to Clemmons in 1964 when she married J. Dodd Linker, Sr. Martha joined the choir at Clemmons Moravian Church and was also active in many other groups in the church. She enjoyed and was active in several other clubs including Garden Club, Civic Club Auxillary, Extension Homemakers, and Red Hat Society. Martha was a very involved Girl Scout leader for many years. She was dedicated to genealogy research and became a member and Regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Daughters of the War of 1812, and Colonial Dames. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother she will be deeply missed. She is survived by her son, David Cline (Brenda); daughter, Martha Linker Mabe (Steve); step-son, J. Dodd Linker, Jr. (Carol); brother, George Wells; four grandchildren: Dodd Linker III, Emily Linker Derrick, Kayla Cline Helms and Jacob Cline; three great-grandchildren: Brianna and Katherine Derrick, and Clara Helms. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband J. Dodd Linker, Sr. A funeral service was conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, at Clemmons Moravian Church with Pastor Chris Thore officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, at the church. Susan Henkel Nieters

Susan Henkel Nieters, 75, passed away Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born in Merrick, N.Y., on April 2, 1943, to the late Francis Joseph and Catherine Enright Henkel. Ms. Nieters was a devout Catholic and was a devoted member at Holy Family Catholic Church and previously at St. Therese Catholic Church in Mooresville. She was a loving mother and grandmother and was a great cook. Preceding her in death was a brother, Francis J. Henkel, Jr. Surviving are five sons, Kevin Nieters (Debra) of Statesville, John Nieters (Lisa) of Clemmons, Mark Nieters (Stephanie) of Lexington, Gerard Nieters (Dana) of Denver, and Daniel Nieters (Mendi) of Raleigh; six grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth Henkel (Hillary) of Tallahassee, Fla.,  and Gerard Henkel (Holly) of Orinda, Calif.; sister-in-law, Gail Henkel of Baltimore, Md.; also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial mass was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2019, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Clemmons with Father Michael Buttner officiating. An inurnment followed the service at the church columbarium. The family received friends during a luncheon following the inurnment service. Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel served the Nieters family.
