It’s that time of year again, folks! Every year, the seniors at West Forsyth band together and begin a game called “Senior Assassins,” in which students compete in a Hunger Games-style water fight. Each participant must pay $10 to join the fun, and the winner receives an ultimate cash prize. Here’s how it works:

Senior Assassins is a student-led event. In recent years, its main platform has been Twitter, where students can sign up and send in pictures of their progress throughout the game. Once sign-ups close, the participants are randomly assigned a target. Each person has one week to “kill” their assigned target by shooting them with a water gun, hitting them with a water balloon or drenching them with a gallon bucket of water. If a participant does not “kill” their target within one week of being assigned, then they become inactive and may be “killed” by any other players. Seems simple, right? Well, there are a few caveats to this notorious game.

A player may not be assassinated if they are in one of the many designated safe zones. These include school events, places of worship, work places, doctor’s offices and private residences (unless the assassin has been invited in by a resident). When entering or leaving a safe zone, a player has 45 seconds to reach their destination before they are deemed free game and can be “killed.”

The game is highly unpredictable, and it can last anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. So, if you see students running around, chasing each other with various forms of water guns, don’t be alarmed! It’s simply seniors celebrating the  graduation milestone that was 13 years in the making.
