It’s that time of year again! As we cross the threshold into May, exam season begins. Starting next Monday, students will take their Advanced Placement (AP) Exams over the course of two fall weeks, hoping to earn some form of college credit. There are a wide variety of AP courses offered at both West Forsyth and the Career Center, with everything from AP human geography to AP studio art available for students. As we head into this challenging week of exams, here are a few reminders about student requirements and how the exams themselves are run.

For those who are unaware, these tests are extremely rigorous and often consist of two sections: multiple choice and free response questions. A student may earn a score from 1-5 on the exam, with 5 being well-qualified for college credit and 1 being no recommendation for college credit. While AP exams are administered during May, students will not receive their scores until July, when they can go onto the college board’s website and login using their AP student number to view their results.

Over the next two weeks, roughly 32 AP exams will be given to students all across the country. A schedule of these exams can be found online on both the West Forsyth website and the Career Center website. Students should come to each exam with their AP student pack, No. 2 pencils, a photo ID and a calculator (if applicable). Students should not bring phones or other electronics, as doing so could result in a test misadministration or a recension of their scores.

Going into your first AP exam can be nerve racking, but it’s important to remember that there’s no way to fail this test. Students are simply awarded points for things they do well, not marked off for what they don’t know. So if you’re going into your first AP exam week, take a deep breath and relax; you’re going to do great!
