Couriering the area this week in 1989 — Charles B. Lott, village manager, presented the proposed 1989-90 Clemmons budget of $1,288,400 to councilmen with no tax increase and only $34,000 increase from last year’s budget.
Jacqueline M. DeVinney, a student in the graduate program of nursing at UNC-Greensboro, was awarded an educational fellowship from the American Association of Nursing Anesthetists/Educational Research Foundation.
Frances Dodson and Cindy Queen, two senior Girl Scouts with Clemmons Troop 437, received Gold Awards in a special ceremony at Clemmons United Methodist Church.
Heather Kristene Hilton, a student at Forsyth Country Day School, was honored for her academic achievement at Duke University.
Terry R. Alexander of Harrell, Alexander & Company in Clemmons, was honored at Sedgefield Country Club by the North Carolina Association of CPAs.
Christopher L. Fincher was named branch operations manager of the Clemmons office of Wachovia Bank and Trust Company. He was also elected banking officer.
West Forsyth High School was preparing for graduation on June 7. Four hundred and eighteen seniors were scheduled to graduate in the school football stadium. Ann Raines, a parent representative, was to give the commencement address.
Robert D. Sipprell, III, of Clemmons and son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert D. Sipprell, Jr., was selected to serve as a resident assistant at UNC-Chapel Hill.
The Clemmons High School Class of 1939 held its 50th reunion at the Holiday Inn in Clemmons. Fifteen class members and their spouses were in attendance out of a class of 39. One teacher, J. Dodd Linker attended. A silent prayer was held for six members of the class who were deceased. Each class member gave a brief outline of their life. Those attending were — Margaret Ellis Heath, Sarah Crater Rash, Earsely Nifong Fulton, Ethel Poindexter Brewer, Cleo Baity Everidge, Eloise Down Dunkle, Dorothy Butner Phillips, Gilbert Davis, Ned Wells, Robert Snyder, Ed Satterfield, Norman Satterfield, Robert James Satterfield, James Harper and J. Frank Cook.
Two local students were named to the spring semester dean’s list at Meredith College. Those students were Sandra Grace Blythe of Clemmons, Susan Ashley Johnson of Pfafftown.
Forsyth Country Day School finished second place behind Charlotte Latin in the final 1988-89 Wachovia Cup standings.
