Couriering the area this week in 1971 — The newly completed golf course at Bermuda Run Country Club officially opened with a golf clinic and exhibition match.

Members of the 1971 West Forsyth High School majorettes were Karen Church, Cynthia Barber, Joyce Johnson, Carol Pendergrass, Janie Harmon, Kathy Vogler and Faye Patterson.

Clemmons Lions Club held their meeting and gave out awards. The following were award winners — John C. Beale, Bill Hardy, Vernon Jones, Marshall Clawson and Vance Pascal.

The Clemmons Jaycees held a Police Appreciation night. The occasion was held for the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Department and the Winston-Salem Police Department.

Four seniors at West Forsyth Senior High School were named semifinalists in the 1971-72 National Merit Scholarship Program. Those named were Betsy H. Bailey, Cheryl A. Marceau, Reginald F. Combs and Michael D. Greene.

Staff Sergeant Henry E. Douthit, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry I. Douthit of Advance, graduated with honors at Sheppard AFB, Texas, from the training course for U.S. Air Force aircraft mechanics.

The Clemmons Elementary School PTA library committee held a tea to introduce the new library to PTA members and other interested parties. Among the 40 or so guests was the principal, W. F. Morgan.

Four final entries had been received in the Lewisville Autumn Festival Baby Contest. Those included Angela Ball, 12 months, daughter of Mrs. Rebecca Ball of Lewisville; Donna Gean Todd, five months old and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Todd of Lewisville; Neal Pendergrass, 22 months and son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Pendergrass of Lewisville; and Wallace Lee Smith, 13 months and son of Mr. and Mrs. D. T. Smith of Clemmons.

The West Forsyth High School Titan girls’ speedball players racked up all their score in the first half over North in their season opener to shut out the Vikings, 13-0.

The annual drive for contributions to support the volunteer street lighting project in the Clemmons community began this week. Dennis E. Brewer was chairman of the project. Roy Wrights was vice chairman and Mrs. Joy Hauser was secretary-treasurer.

Carl Lawrence, B. K. Millaway Jr. and Koyt Everhart Jr. returned from Phoenix, Arizona, home of Ramada Inn, Inc. The three men were associated in the Clemmons Ramada Inn venture.

David William Cook, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank J. Cook of Clemmons, enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the Navy’s new 180-day program.

Midshipman Albert R. Miller, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert R. Miller of Clemmons, completed two weeks of Aviation Indoctrination Training at the Aviation Schools Command, Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Florida.
