Christopher ‘Chris’ Wayne Choplin

Mr. Christopher “Chris” Wayne Choplin, 56, of Clemmons, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Jan. 17, 2020. Chris was born in Forsyth County on Nov. 10, 1963, to Joe Wesley Choplin and Roxie Collins Choplin. He graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School in 1982 and was the owner and operator of Country Club Rug & Fabric Care in Winston-Salem. Chris enjoyed anything with a motor and wheels, especially motorcycles and was an avid fisherman. He helped coach the Lewisville Titans Pop Warner football team and YMCA basketball teams. He appreciated the opportunity to make a positive impact on kids through coaching sports. Chris was preceded in death by his father. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Lisa “Crickett” Cagle Choplin of Clemmons; his children, Courtney Choplin and fiancé, Nick LeCompte of Advance, and Landon Choplin of Wilmington; one granddaughter, Harper Leigh LeCompte; two brothers, Keith Choplin (Robin) of Midway, and Bill Choplin (Viola) of Winston-Salem; one sister, Tammy Leinbach of Winston-Salem; several nieces and nephews; his beloved pets, Johnzie, Rylie and numerous others; and two special friends, John Lusk and Jimmy Barnhill. A service to celebrate Chris’ life will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 24, 2020, at Parkway Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Bonita ‘Bonnie’ M. Farina

Bonita “Bonnie” M. Farina, 85, died Jan. 16, 2020, after a battle with Alzheimer’s. Born Jan. 1, 1935 in Elk Park, she was the daughter of Pashley Hill McCloud and Martisha Hagie McCloud. She and her husband, Louis N. Farina, lived most of their married life in Lockport, New York, where she worked 30 years at General Motors, Harrison Radiator Division, before retiring and settling in Clemmons.

Louis preceded Bonnie in death in September of 1998. She was also preceded in death by her younger brother, Boyd. Bonnie is survived by two brothers, Paul (Martha) of Tallmadge, Ohio, and Clark (Frances) of Newfane, N.Y.; two children, James  Farina (Vanessa) of East Bend and Linda Isham (Rick) of Clemmons; three granddaughters, Mandy Isham of Winston-Salem, Brianna Isham of Clemmons, and Sarah Farina Carver (JimBob) currently in Okinawa, Japan; her two great-granddaughters, Zoey Rayne Isham of Clemmons and Perri Morgane Carver currently in Okinawa; and sister-in-law Ruth. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of her life will be held at Calvary Baptist Church at a future date.

Ellon Elizabeth Howard

Mrs. Ellon Elizabeth Howard, 94, of Advance, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem with her family by her side. Mrs. Howard was born April 25, 1925, in Forsyth County to Lewis and Beulah Harper. Ellon loved spending time with family and loved her grandchildren. She enjoyed being outside in both her flower and vegetable gardens. While her children were growing up, Ellon was an active member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem where she taught Vacation Bible School and worked with the children’s Christmas programs. Upon the family move to Davie County, she joined Bethlehem United Methodist Church where she was a longtime member. Ellon worked for Hanes Cotton Mill during WWII and the remainder of her career was spent in the food service industry. Many folks will remember her fondly from serving them at Snooks BBQ in Advance. In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by two brothers Bud and Jess Harper, one adopted sister Linda and her oldest son Tony. She leaves behind her loving husband Johnny of almost 74 years, two sons Jerry (Gail) and Dennis (Vickie), daughter-in-law Lana, granddaughter Christin, step-grandchildren Shane Wood (Rosa) and Dawn Sechrest (Tim), step-great-grandchildren Will and Elizabeth Sechrest and Anna, Mia and Aila Wood, sister Betty Harper, nieces Vicky, Gena, April and Sharon, great-nephew Jamie, close family members Kylie and Tyler and other special nieces and nephews. A service celebrating Ellon’s life was held at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2020, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Advance with Dr. Chuck Baker officiating. The family received friends and loved ones from 2-3:30 p.m. prior to the service in Bethlehem’s Family Life Center. Kyong Cha ‘Wanda’ King

Mrs. Kyong Cha “Wanda” King of Bermuda Run, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family on Jan. 14, 2020, after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Yong Wook Yi and Hon Rang Pak, two sisters and one brother, all of South Korea. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Benjamin F. King, of the home, their children, Brenda Landau (Steve), Sharon Thompson (Bryan) and Marcus King (Sharon), seven grandchildren, Audrey & Emma Landau, Nina & Sophia Thompson, Benjamin, Daniel and Mark King, one sister Kum Ja Yi, of Seoul, South Korea, three sister-in-laws, two brother-in-laws and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. King was born Aug. 6, 1939, in Sariwon City, North Korea. As a child, she walked with her family to Seoul, South Korea, to escape communism. She met her husband Benny while he was stationed in South Korea, and they married on July 6, 1962. She obtained her citizenship on Nov. 19, 1965, becoming and remaining a proud American. Together, she and her husband travelled many places around the world with the Army until Benny retired from service and settled in Davie County. Mrs. King worked various jobs throughout her life, but her hardest and most rewarding job was being a mother and grandmother. The family would like to thank all the staff of Bermuda Village for their unwavering assistance and support. They would also like to give special thanks to Regina Evans and the wonderful ladies of Gina’s Helping Hand who so lovingly provided care for Mrs. King during her illness. A celebration of life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020, at Fellowship Baptist Church in Advance. Mary Wise Pearce

Mrs. Mary Wise Pearce, 89, of Clemmons, passed away Monday, Jan. 20, 2020, at Vienna Village in Pfafftown. She was born April 11, 1930, in Forsyth County to the late L. F. Wise, Sr. and Charity Kiser Wise. She is preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Webster Pearce. Surviving are one son, Jon Pearce; one daughter, Jaye “Jill” Pearce; one brother, James Wise (Loraine) and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2020, at Westlawn Gardens of Memory by Mr. Barry Pearce. The family will receive friends following the service at Clemmons First Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Trellis Supportive Care Center, 101 Hospice Ln. Dylan Paul Snell

Dylan Paul Snell, 33, of Clemmons, formerly of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Born April 7, 1986, in Portland, Oregon, he was the son of Barton C. Snell and the late, Ellen (Baker) Snell. In addition to his mother he also was preceded in death by a brother, Dalen D. Snell. Dylan was a senior associate for Pepsi Cola Company. He enjoyed playing soccer, he was a video game enthusiast and an animal lover. In addition to his father he also is survived by a brother, Adrian M. Snell (Sarah) of Richmond, Virginia.; a sister, Erin C. Snell of Charleston S.C.; two nieces and a nephew, Lilly Canaan, Trenton Daniel and Kennedy Jane; two uncles, Rob Baker (Cat) of Georgetown, Delaware, and Bruce Baker (Heidi) of Hagerstown; six cousins, Kristin, Joel, Lauren, Renee, Jennifer and John.

A memorial service was conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2020, at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown with Chaplain Volodymyr Grenchenko officiating. Inurnment was private in Rest Haven Cemetery. Friends were received at the funeral home on Wednesday, two hours prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dylan’s name to the Humane Society of Washington County, 13011 Maugansville Road., Hagerstown, MD 21740, or to your local Humane Society.
