Thanks for supporting teachers

We would like to thank all those who contributed and supported our successful quarter-cent sales tax campaign to increase local teacher supplements. In particular, we would like to thank the following organizations for endorsing our efforts: The City of Winston-Salem; the Town of Lewisville; the Village of Tobaccoville; the Town of Bethania; the Greater Winston Chamber of Commerce; the Winston-Salem Journal; and the Kernersville News. But most important we want to thank the citizens who voted to support our teachers.

The Forsyth County commissioners are committed to assuring the public that all dollars generated from the additional quarter-cent sales tax will go toward increasing the current local teacher supplement. The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School Board will provide the amount of teacher supplemental pay annually and we will verify that the additional dollars have been spent for this purpose. We are also committed to reducing the property tax rate by one cent for the 2020-2021 tax year. Thanks again for supporting our teachers.

Local funeral director is caring and compassionate

Wednesday, March 11, has been designated “National Funeral Director Day” by the United States Congress. A Clemmons local embodies the caring compassion needed to serve in this unique industry, or in her words, one of the most heartbreaking, yet fulfilling occupation there is.

Sarah White, a dedicated funeral director, is no stranger to impactful service to her community. Before her days in the funeral service, Sarah served as a certified firefighter and licensed EMT at Smith Grove Fire Department. As a first responder, she discovered her passion for caring for people in need, including families who needed support when losing a loved one.

Sarah began her career at Sechrest Funeral Service, a member of the Dignity Memorial network, in 2015 and graduated with honors in 2016 from Fayetteville Technical Community College in funeral directing and again in 2019 with honors in funeral service education.

The most rewarding aspect of her career is making true connections with every family she serves. In her free time, Sarah enjoys spending time with her family, volunteering with her local fire department and attending Wake Forest University sporting events.
