March has finally hit the calendar, and that means the start of multiple springtime events coming to the area. One of these is the annual Forsyth Creek Week event, this year scheduled for March 21-29, taking place throughout Forsyth County. Forsyth Creek week, which is now entering its eighth year, is an annual chance to celebrate our local waterways that helps people understand and appreciate the importance of our local water through fun and informative activities. The Village of Clemmons has been heavily involved with this event for the past seven years, and some popular activities from years pasts are returning again this year, such as Family Fishing Fun, and Operation Medicine Drop.

Clemmons will kick off the event with their Family Fishing Fun event, now at its new location, Village Point Lake. With the new location, comes new perks, as the fishing licenses will be waived from 10 a.m.-noon for the event. Clemmons Bait & Tackle will be on hand to show kids how to cast, and give away some free fishing poles at the end of the event (must be present to win), and the Forsyth Sheriff’s Office will be on hand with its mobile command unit for people to come and check out as well. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about fish and fishing with the help of the Forsyth County Cooperative Extension and the Yadkin River Keeper, to name a few. They will also get to participate in creek crawls, multiple crafts and games, and have families make memories that they will never forget. So don’t forget to bring your fishing pole and your water shoes!

Operation Medicine Drop, always a huge hit in Clemmons, will be happening again from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Monday, March 23, at Fire Station No. 14 on James Street, with cooperation from the Forsyth Sheriff’s Office. This event over the years has helped responsibly remove hundreds of pounds of unused and expired medications from households in the area. Only pills can be accepted, and this is for households only.
