Couriering the area this week in 1990 — Chrissie Hall, of Clemmons, met teen heartthrob Donnie Wahlberg of the pop group New Kids on the Block. She attended their performance in Greensboro.

Janet Kay Porter, of Clemmons, was invited to compete for a Julia Hamlet Harris Scholarship at Meredith College. She is the daughter of Joseph Porter of Princeton, New Jersey, and Carolyn DeFoe, of Clemmons, and is a senior at West Forsyth High School.

The annual Kennedy Middle School’s Science Fair was held with 43 projects competing. Jonathan Rhodes was the first place winner with his project, “Do Microwaves Affect Plant Growth?”

Lilly Faranakian, a senior at Forsyth Country Day School and the daughter of Dr. Ali and Arame Faranakian of Bermuda Run, was awarded a Morehead Scholarship to UNC-Chapel Hill.

Clemmons Arts committee chairman, Janet Banzhof, announced a recent telethon for the Arts Council which netted only $915 from Clemmons residents. This came up short from last years raised which was around $2,000.

Three West Forsyth High School football players — Jeff Perry, Bobby Leloudis and Sam Morgan — were featured in the Courier for modeling apparel they made in senior home economics.

Diane Burket, from Clemmons, was the featured, “Cook of the Week” in the Courier. Some of her recipes included Cavanaugh corned beef and cabbage, brandied carrots, corn muffins, chocolate crème cake and fruit compote.

West Charlotte knocks West Forsyth Titans boy’s basketball out of the playoffs with a score of 73-64.

Injuries and foul trouble cost the West Forsyth girls’ basketball team a shot at the Section 2 championship as the Lady Titans fell to West Mecklenburg 68-33.

Actor Jim Belushi visited the campus of West Forsyth and spoke with students. He was in Winston-Salem filming a movie.

Jacquelene H. Sotriffer, of Clemmons, was elected trust officer at First Wachovia Trust Services in Winston-Salem.
