On Wednesday, Mayor John Wait signed a third state of emergency order that took effect at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday. Upon the order’s taking effect, Clemmons will no longer have separate stay-at-home restrictions. Instead, the governor’s stay-at-home restrictions, including but not limited to those in Executive Orders 121 and 131, will be the only mandatory restrictions in the village.

The new state of emergency recommends, but does not require, that everyone in the village use facemasks as recommended by the CDC or the NCDHHS. It also recommends, but does not require, that businesses create and maintain a protective barrier between employees and customers at the point of sale, if applicable; make hand-sanitizer available to employees and customers and encourage hand-washing to the extent recommended by the CDC or the NCDHHS; post signage to remind employees and customers to maintain social distancing; and continue virtual, curbside, delivery, or other methods that facilitate a contact-free transaction.
