Couriering the area this week in 1981 — Reports indicated that a definite purchase agreement had been reached between Heffner’s Land of Food in Mocksville and Food Town, Inc. of Salisbury.
DOT crews were working on U.S. 158 to prepare the highway for resurfacing. Paving began at the Winston-Salem city limits on U.S. 158 and ended at the Davie County line at the Yadkin River.
Eddie Leagans, 4-H agent in Forsyth County, was honored in two ways — in recognition of overall outstanding work and the N.C. Agriculture Extension Service promoted Leagans from associate extension agent, 4-H to extension agent, 4-H.
The first step towards a new fire station in Clemmons’ future was taken at the recent WSFC Board of Education agreeing to lease part of the old Clemmons School property to the volunteer fire department.
Ronnie D. Kirby, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Kirby Jr., of Clemmons, received practical work in military leadership at the Army ROTC Advanced Camp at Fort Bragg.
Linda Neal, of Clemmons, was honored for outstanding sales achievement with the Dallas, Texas, firm of Mary Kay Cosmetics, Inc.
Airman Harry B. Tucker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry H. Tucker of Clemmons, completed an electronics course at Keesler AFB in Mississippi in which he averaged 99.33% in grades for the first nine blocks on instruction.
Floyd L. Mock, of Lewisville, was elected to the local board of directors at Northwestern Bank in Lewisville.
Driftwood Drive, in Old Meadowbrook, was chosen as the “Street of the Month” by the Clemmons Courier.
Wendy Hedrick, eight-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy L. Hedrick of Clemmons, and Melea Nicks, six-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ricky Nicks of Clemmons, read the most books in the summer program at the Clemmons Library.
The West Forsyth Varsity cheerleaders had a busy summer competing at cheerleading camps. Members included: Mary Kaskett, Beth Burleigh, Lisa Marion, Mellonie Keaton, Alice Graves, Dawn Reece, Tommi Mahannah, Julie Carter, Bryn Morris, Kim Vinson, Susie Vuksanovich and Laura Link.
Clemmons resident Scott Oliver was fifth in the nation in the 800-meter in the Athletic Congress Nationals in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
John M. Borek, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jan Borek of Clemmons received practical work in military leadership at the Army ROTC Advanced Camp at Fort Bragg.
The 1981 Tanglewood Junior Golf Association Trophy winners were Penny Cash, Greer Creed, Mark Perry, Robby Duncan, Brian Sorensen, Mike Morrison, Jeff Perry, Cam Burris, Roger Topping, Derrick Thorpe, Tim Cogdill, Keith Bagby, Wrenn Yancey, Billy Schatzman, David Summers, Jeff Williams, Ian Phillips, Steve Haubrich, Jimmy Duncan, Kerry Shrontz, John Bonku, Mark Cartner and Richie Poinsett.
