Whether you love it or hate it, the school year continues to take place entirely online, however, it raises concerns for some families. Whether that be childcare during the day for working families, transportation to after-school practices or workouts for athletics or something as simple as keeping a student focused over the school day. These issues along with others are inspiring a large group of parents, teachers and students to push for a return to school in person. In response to this push, the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School system (WSFCS) has put in place a plan for a safe return.

First and foremost, this plan involves sending kindergarten through third grade, as well as sixth grade back first, which could happen as soon as Nov. 2. If the implementation of those grades go smoothly, then fourth, fifth, seventh and eighth would go back on Nov. 16. Which leaves West students, as well as the rest of the high schools returning later. While the school board has high schools slated to return Jan. 11-21 for midterms and EOC testing high school students will not return for regular school until Jan. 25.
